Safety & Use Guidelines

Loading, placement, casters, and anchoring information for BIN Storage Systems.

Safe Use & Loading Guidelines (Recommended)

BIN Storage Systems racks are designed to store commercially available 27-gallon tote bins in a freestanding configuration. Our systems are available in 3-high, 4-high, and 5-high formats (5-high maximum).

Loading & Weight Guidance

  • Do not exceed the tote manufacturer’s stated weight capacity (for example, some 27-gallon totes list up to 75 lbs per tote).
  • Evenly distribute weight across the rack. Avoid loading one side or one level significantly heavier than the rest.
  • Place heavier totes on the lower levels and lighter totes higher up, especially on 4-high and 5-high racks.
  • Do not store loose, top-heavy items outside of totes on upper levels.

Placement & Stability

  • Place the rack on a level, stable surface. Uneven floors can reduce stability.
  • Keep aisles clear so bins can be removed without bumping or yanking the rack.

Casters (If Equipped)

  • If your rack includes locking casters, engage the locks whenever the rack is stationary.
  • Casters are intended for repositioning on smooth, level surfaces. Avoid thresholds, steep slopes, or uneven surfaces while loaded.

Safety

  • This rack is for storage use only. Do not climb, sit, hang, or allow children to play on the rack.

Wall Anchoring (Not Provided)

  • BIN Storage Systems does not install, mount, or anchor racks to any surface and does not provide mounting hardware.
  • If a customer chooses to anchor a rack for added stability, anchoring must be completed by the customer or a properly qualified contractor.

Note: These guidelines are general safety recommendations. Stability and load performance vary based on tote type, weight distribution, floor conditions, and use.
